The Scammell Mechanical Horse appeared in 1933 as a direct replacement for horse drawn carts. Scammells highly successful Scarab was launched in 1948 and was the modern replacement to the Mechanical Horse. This mark was produced until 1968.

The railway companies of the time adopted these innovative vehicles in their drones and this Corgi model depicts this infamous transporter in Railfreight livery. Railfreight Distribution was a sector of British Rail, responsible for non-trainload freight operations, as well as Freightliner and Intermodal services.
